This is a very specific area that requires a particular approach. It is not something that responds well to normal counselling, psychotherapy or CBT, because in this situation, your subconscious mind - which looks after you in case of threat - is in a heightened state of alert - trying to make sure you are safe from the original threat. Whatever you do with the conscious thinking mind, your subconscious, inner mind, will override it. This is because it sees the trauma as a threat to your safety, and safety always comes first for survival.
Trauma and PTSD can be a simple one-off event - for example, being involved in an horrific car accident - or it can be a series of complex traumas - for example, being subjected to abuse over a period of years.
EMDR and EFT are very effective tools for dealing with trauma and PTSD, as are advanced structured hypnotherapy, where we can actually work directly with your subconscious mind to release the trauma and learn new ways of behaving and reacting.
CBT and Solution-oriented hypnotherapy is excellent for showing you a way forward.
